Prepona pylene (Hewitson, [1854])

Natural History:

Prepona pylene has seven subspecies at Neotropics (Lamas, 2004) and more one described in Colombia (Constantino & Hurtado, 2009). Like another species of Prepona,  P. pylene shows the ventral surface camouflaged. Generally rest with wings closed behind the head, and does not show frequently the blue metalic band in dorsal surface.

In central Amazon Prepona pylene is not abundant, and inhabits both understory and canopy of the forest.

Bolivia; Brasil; Colombia; Ecuador; Guyane française; Honduras; Paraguay
Feeding Adult:

Adults feed on fruit and decaying organic matter

Feeding Caterpillars:

The caterpillars feed on plants Myrtaceae (Brown, 1992)
