Pieridae

Pierinae is a cosmopolitan group which has the highest diversity among pierideos. A quarter of the species occur in the Neotropics (DeVries, 1987; Lamas 2004). In the New World are important as host-plant the families Capparidaceae, Brassicaceae, Tropaeolocea, Loranthaceae and Euphorbiaceae. Eggs are laid in groups or solitary (Canseco 2007).

31 genera of Pierinae occur in the Neotropics (Lamas, 2004); Glutophrissa, Itaballia, Melete, Perrhybris, Ascia and Hesperocharis represented in the Collection of Invertebrates of the National Institute for Amazonian Research.
