Riodininae have a worldwide distribution, but occur mainly in the Neotropics. Many species are brightly coloured and wing-shape is diverse within the group (Scoble, 1992). About 1150 species occur in Neotropic Region (Lamas, 2004).
A phylogenetic reassessment of thibes in this subfamily is proposed by Hall (2003).
