Heliconiinae

Nymphalidae

Most Heliconiinae is tropical, and at Neotropics about 150 species are distributed in tribes Argynnini, Acraeini, Heliconiini (Lamas, 2004).

Their larvae feed on plants Passifloraceae, and  so called "Passion Vine Butterflies”. The adults feed on nectar, but some Heliconius species feed on pollen (Scoble, 1992). About  biology of Heliconius and anothers genus see Brown (1981).

This group  illustrate many  coevolution models (see Gilbert, 1972), mimetic, and speciation, with hundreds of studies are available in the literature (Lamas, 2013).
