Papilio odius (Fabricius, 1775)
This species called as "eagle” despite their size and behavior. The distribution is signed throughout the American continent ( Otero & Marigo, 1990). Occurs in all habitats and shows aggressive behavior, can be observed repel other insects and even birds when they are visiting the same rotten fruit (Brown, 1992).
In central Amazonia was collected only in the canopy strata, but can be collected in the understory, as showed by research conducted in Costa Rica (DeVries & Walla 2001). Adults live in the canopy but may descend to the ground to feed on fruits of Ficus sp., American genipa, Manilkara zapota and fruits of Anacardiacea (Janzen, 1991).
