The genus Agrias has 5 species recorded in the Neotropics, with hundreds subspecies (Lamas, 2004). These butterflies are intensely captured by collectors and is an endangered species in some regions.
Agrias amydon reveals various shapes and colors, included in their geographical distribution. Rarely is captured in the understory, is a species that occurs predominantly in forest canopies.
According Otero & Marigo (1992), adults lives about 1 month. The males of Agrias amydon are territorial. Females lay eggs isolated on the underside of leaves of Erythroxylum - a genus of pantropical distribution (Ribeiro et al. 1999).

Adults feed on rotten fruit, secretions vegetables and animal excreta
According Beccaloni et al. (2008) are several species of Erythroxylum.
