Natural History:

Heliconius sara can be observed in many places open and sunlight. Commonly visit flowers at garden, sucking flowers of Verbenaceae Stachytarpheta and Lantana, that are abundant throughout the year, as noted in an urban forest of Manaus.

 Behavioral patterns were described by Benson et al. (1989) with observations maded in Carajás, Pará, demonstrating territory defense by males of this species.
