Natural History:

Taygetis is a genus comprising butterflies medium to large size. Taygetis mermeria is one of the largest and has wingspan greater than 7 cm. During  4 years of sampling of frugivorous in forests near Manaus this species was not collected. However this species was relatively abundant in floodplain forest borderin the Purus River. It is a species that inhabits the understory predominantly, but was recorded in canopy traps in southeastern Brazil (Silva et al. 2010).
